Centurion’s Purse is a program of Centurion’s Shield, a nonprofit corporation seeking to support and defend prospective, current, and former service members and to bear true faith and allegiance to Jesus Christ.
Support and Defend:
Finding value in the oath we swore to support and defend the Constitution, we find it equally valuable to support and defend fellow service members of all rank and . From civilians considering enlisting or seeking commissions, to veterans and retirees, we provide legal, religious, and educational material and financial resources to support their personal and spiritual growth.
True Faith and Allegiance:
While we continue to submit to the authorities appointed above us, we confess ultimate allegiance to and faith in Jesus Christ. Though patriotism and piety may at times compliment one another, we must discern when and how each allegiance (to God or to country) may without notice become mutually exclusive of the other. We recognize that we must not serve two masters, that in loving one we may come to hate the other. Centurions serve God while finding ways to conscientiously submit to their countrymen.
Centurion’s Shield exists as an agent of reconciliation for fellow warriors who wrestle with their loyalties to God and country. We seek to support the troops by resolving bruised or broken relationships between a person and the military, even if that leads the individual to sever said relationship. Our founders come from incredibly diverse backgrounds: from the Army, Navy, and Air Force (Active, Reserve, and Cadet); from Anabaptist, Catholic and Protestant backgrounds; including both conscientious objectors and those who do not feel led away from the military. Our strength is in our diversity and common desire for relief and healing for our fellow servicemen and women.
In our current political and social atmosphere, patriotism and piety are frequently interwoven; many Christians thinking God endorses a political party or takes sides in war. Others seem to feel that some institutions, like the military, are devoid of the presence of God and that a disciple’s witness will bear no fruit in such environments. If you wrestle ("Israel" - Gen. 32:28) with the Gospel of Peace and it's relevance in our age of wars and rumors of war, you will surely find sympathetic souls here.
We believe that such a precarious journey of discovery is best traveled in relationship with one another and that we are called to honesty and sincerity to our individual beliefs. No decision (to enter the service, to destroy our nation’s enemies, to conscientiously object to military service) should be made in solitude. Please join us in gentle, reverent discussion regarding our call to be engaged in the battle with the principalities and powers; to be Centurions of Christ.
